Journey into the Eastern Desert: The Umayyad Castles

Tour Itinerary of Eastern Desert Castles Half Day Trip from Amman :

Step back in time as your driver takes you north from Amman into the vast Eastern Desert to uncover the secrets of the powerful Umayyad dynasty.

Your first stop is the UNESCO-listed Qusayr Amra, an 8th-century hunting lodge celebrated for its controversial and incredibly well-preserved frescoes that offer a unique glimpse into the hedonistic lifestyle of the caliphs.

Next, you will visit the formidable Qasr Kharana, an imposing two-story castle where you can observe a fascinating mix of Mesopotamian, Arabic, and Greek architectural styles embedded in its design.

The final stop is Qasr al-Azraq, a dramatic fortress constructed entirely from local black basalt. While originally an Umayyad hunting lodge, it is more famously known today as the strategic headquarters of T.E. Lawrence during the Great Arab Revolt.

After a morning of historical exploration, your driver will comfortably transfer you back to your hotel in Amman.
