What are the Border crossings between Israel and Jordan?
There are 3 Land Border Crossings between Jordan and Palestine/Israel that tourists can pass. Each of them has two names – one on the Jordanian, and one on the Israeli side. From North to South they are :
- Sheikh Hussein (Northern Border) / Jordan RiverCrossing:
Located approximately between the Jordanian city Irbid and the Israeli town Beit She’an.
- King Hussein/ Allenby Bridge:
Located approximately between Jordan’s capital Amman and Jerusalem. Even though operated by the Israeli authorities, it is the only direct border crossing between the Palestinian Territories and Jordan.
- Wadi Araba (Aqaba) / Yitzhak Rabin (Eilat) Crossing:
Located close to the Red Sea, between Aqaba and Eilat. Since it was named only relatively recently “Yitzhak Rabin Crossing”, the crossing point is on the Israeli side often still called by it’s old name – Wadi Arava Crossing.
Do I have to pay the Israeli Departure Tax?
When you enter to Jordan from one of the three land borders between Israel and Jordan you are required to pay the Israeli departure tax. This is to be paid by yourself and is not included in our tour packages as it is payable at the Israeli border directly.
Israeli Departure tax at Sheik Hussein Border/Northern/Jordan River Border : 105 NIS (Israeli Shekels) or approximately $30USD. Can be paid in USD or NIS.
Israeli Departure tax at Allenby Border : 173 NIS (Israeli Shekels) or approximately $55USD. Can be paid in USD or NIS.
Israeli Departure tax at Eilat/Aqaba Border : 105 NIS (Israeli Shekels) or approximately $30USD. Can be paid in USD or NIS
